Julissa Arlene Rodriguez, also known as JAR, is a Queer gender fluid artist of Dominican and Haitian descent based out of the Bronx. After being classically trained in realism drawing, they experimented with the use of color in acrylic painting, creating works that embodied the beauty they saw in the female form and geometry. They have always expressed their artistic vision through a number of mediums, from painting to writing poetry. As they evolved as an artist, they moved from body painting to tattooing. Their tattoo work is informed by their spirituality and they look at their tattoo appointments as healing sessions. They strive to break the stigma attached to having tattoos as a person of color, and make tattoos more accessible for their community. By continuously refining their talents and bridging the gap between visual art and spoken word, Julissa longs to inspire and bring beauty and healing into the world.
